🏫 Choose a reputable shop
Read recent reviews, check the instructor-to-student ratio (max 4:1) and confirm the boat carries oxygen, first aid and a working radio on every trip.
🧪 Compressor & oxygen policies
A responsible shop filters its compressor air on schedule, services rental gear and carries emergency oxygen. If a shop is vague about any of this, walk away.
🛡️ Get dive insurance
Standard travel insurance usually excludes scuba. DAN or equivalent dive-specific cover is cheap and covers chamber treatment — Koh Tao's hospital has a decompression chamber.
