What actually affects the price

  • Vehicle size — 4-seater vs SUV for 5 passengers. Bigger car, higher rate.
  • Hours — standard is 10 hours. Under 8 hours is usually quoted as a half-day.
  • Distance — day trips to the east (Amed, Lempuyang) or Mount Batur sunrise start early and cover long distances; a small surcharge applies for very long routes and is always confirmed before booking.
  • English level — basic drivers are cheaper but limited to transport; our drivers speak English and share local knowledge at no extra fee.
  • Marketplace commissions — when you book through Viator, Klook or GetYourGuide, the platform keeps roughly 20–30% of what you pay. Booking direct means your rate reflects the real local price.

How to avoid overpaying

  1. Get the all-in price in writing — ask "does that include fuel, parking and driver meal?" If it doesn't, the 'cheap' quote isn't cheap.
  2. Skip prepayment — a trustworthy operator lets you pay the driver at the end of the day.
  3. Compare like-for-like — marketplace listings show per-person prices for tours; a private car is per-car. Check the fine print.
  4. Confirm hours — "full day" means 10 hours at BaliGoat. Some operators count a full day as 8, and overtime racks up fast.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip my Bali driver?

Tipping is not required — drivers are paid a fair rate. If service was great, IDR 50,000–100,000 (a few dollars) is a welcome gesture, but nobody will pressure you.

Is it cheaper to rent a scooter or use a driver?

A scooter costs from IDR 80K/day but you drive yourself, pay for fuel and insurance, and Bali traffic + unfamiliar roads are risky for many visitors. A private car with driver is the safer choice for families and first-timers, and lets you enjoy the views instead of navigating.
