If you only remember one number: IDR 100K (~$6) for a full day is a solid, above-average tip that any driver will receive warmly. Less is fine, more is memorable, and nothing is ever demanded.
What the locals actually do
- Bali drivers do not expect tips the way US or European staff do — the all-in price already covers their day.
- Tips are handed over in cash, directly to the driver at the end of the trip.
- Rounding up (e.g. IDR 700K on a 650K day) is a perfectly normal middle ground.
- If the driver declined your tip, that is politeness — pressing once and saying thank you is enough.

- Don't worry about exact amounts. A driver who receives IDR 50K or IDR 100K is equally grateful — it is the gesture that counts.
What if the service was bad?
Tip zero or a token IDR 20K — that is completely acceptable. What matters more: tell the driver what went wrong, and if you booked through a company, tell them too. Good operators (including BaliGoat) want to know about unsafe driving, pressure tactics, or skipped itinerary points, and will usually make it right. A tip is for service delivered, not a compulsory fee.
